A little more about this tool
What it does
This tool re-encodes your image (JPEG or WebP) and tries a bounded set of quality and resolution settings to fit your target size. If quality alone is not enough, it progressively downscales the image. It never uploads anything: the canvas in your browser does all the work.
Good to know
Input: JPG / PNG / WebP. Output: JPEG (transparent areas become white) or WebP (keeps transparency). Extremely noisy photos may not reach very small targets — the tool then reports the closest size it achieved instead of pretending.
Verify the no-upload promise
Open developer tools → Network, then process a file. First use may fetch a static processing module from this site. Inspect the request payloads: none contains your selected file. Processing and generated downloads happen on your device.
Good questions, clear answers
Why does my PNG get a white background?
The default output is JPEG, which has no transparency. Choose WebP output to keep transparency, or add your own background before compressing.
How does the tool decide quality?
It sweeps quality levels and, if needed, image sizes, and returns the first result that fits your target — the search prioritizes larger dimensions and then higher quality within its configured steps; it does not guarantee a mathematically optimal result.
What if it cannot reach 20 KB?
Some photos (heavy noise, fine texture) resist compression. The tool reports the closest size achieved — an honest number instead of a fake success.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs in your browser; nothing is transmitted or stored. Verify with the browser Network tab.
Does it work on phones?
Yes — it is a plain website. Phone photos compress fine; only very large batches are better on desktop.
